CEO Diary: A year and a half in – Building something bigger

It’s been almost a year and a half since we opened the doors to our first Ghost Taco location, and somehow, it feels like no time at all and a lifetime at the same time

CEO Diary: A year and a half in - Building something bigger

Eighteen months is a short window in the grand scheme of building a business, but when I look back at everything we’ve accomplished, it’s nothing short of remarkable.

Since launching our flagship on December 1st, 2023, we’ve opened two franchises, launched our second corporate store in Whitby this past April, and have another corporate location and two more franchises on deck for 2025. Every single opening has brought new lessons, new wins, and a deeper understanding of what it takes to grow something sustainable, exciting, and rooted in purpose.

Each community has taught us something different about who we serve, how we connect, and what makes Ghost Taco stand out. Even experimenting with different formats, including a food hall, helped us see what works best for our brand and just as importantly, what doesn’t. These insights have helped us fine-tune our systems, strengthen our operations, and build a roadmap we’re proud to share with our franchisees.

On a personal level, this past year and a half has stretched me more than I could have imagined. I’ve been building this company while raising a young family, navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, and wearing every hat imaginable. There have been long days, tough calls, and moments where I felt like I was holding it all together with duct tape and caffeine, but there’s also been growth, clarity, and purpose. And through it all, we’ve built something real.

We’ve also received some incredible recognition along the way. Being named to the Fast Casual Top 100 Movers & Shakers, nominated by Elite Franchise Canada for Emerging Franchise of the Year, and earning a place on the EF100, which highlights the Top Franchises in Canada. These accolades are a huge honour, not just because they celebrate what we’ve built so far, but because they affirm our belief that leading with heart, integrity, and intention matters.

What I’m most proud of is how we’ve stayed connected to our customers, to our team, and to our why. We’re not just here to sell tacos. We’re here to create great food, memorable experiences, and businesses people are proud to be part of. We’ve built a fanbase, not just a customer base, and that’s what gives this concept longevity.

As we head into our next chapter, I’m more energized than ever. We’re focused on intentional growth, doubling down on operational excellence, and continuing to lead with authenticity. We know who we are, what we bring to the table, and where we’re headed.

Follow along as we open three more locations this year and continue laying the foundation for expansion across Canada and into the U.S. The future is big and we’re just getting started.
